Meet the Team - Dr Paul Ashworth
Get to know Paul, one of our proud GPs who is finding new ways to deliver integrated urgent care to our patients.
by IC24
I am one of the salaried GPs at IC24 and work full time in Norfolk. I initially started working for IC24 in 2016 as a registrar during my GP training and then continued as a sessional GP after I qualified. In November 2023, I became one of the first salaried GPs employed by IC24 in Norfolk, and I continue in this role today.
I am motivated to provide the best possible care to our patients who use our urgent care and out-of-hours (OOH) service. Currently, I work half of my shifts in the Unscheduled Care Co-ordination Hub (UCCH), and the other half at the Norwich Out-of-Hours base seeing patients. The best part of this role has been contributing to the development of the UCCH and finding new ways to deliver urgent care to our local population. This included seeing the hub win an award last year for our work.
IC24 has always been supportive of me and my development, as well as that of my colleagues. I have seen people progress through the organisation into management and director roles, which is one of the things I believe sets IC24 apart from other companies. This commitment to development is something I am proud to be part of.
The most challenging moment is yet to come – I have recently had my application accepted to sit the national Diploma in Urgent Medical Care examination in September, and will need to study hard for this. IC24 has supported me throughout this process and encouraged me to sit the exam.
The most rewarding part of my role is working with colleagues from different providers to deliver care to our patients, often at times when they are acutely unwell. I would describe my role as rewarding, enjoyable, and a privilege.
